Spotify and Higher Ground Productions have finally announced the inaugural podcast from their multi-series multi-year partnership.

Higher Ground is a production company formed by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. Apart from Spotify, Higher Ground Productions also has a multi-year deal with Netflix to produce a wide range of scripted, unscripted and documentary-style series, as well as feature-length narrative and documentary films. Higher Ground Audio has a multi-year deal with Spotify to produce a diverse slate of original podcasts.

The Michelle Obama Podcast will premier exclusively on Spotify on July 29. Joining the First Lady will be an array of special guests including Marian and Craig Robinson, Conan O’Brien, Valerie Jarrett, Michele Norris and Dr. Sharon Malone MD. For the first season, presenting sponsors include Salesforce and P&G brands – Dawn and Tide.

Hosted by Michelle Obama, the series will bring listeners the former First Lady’s most candid and personal conversations, showing us what’s possible when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, to open up, and to focus on what matters most. Episode subjects will focus on the relationships that shape us, from siblings and close friends to partners, parents, and mentors to our relationship with ourselves and our health. Joining the First Lady will be an array of special guests including Marian and Craig Robinson, Conan O’Brien, Valerie Jarett, Michele Norris and Dr. Sharon Malone MD.

In a press release, Michelle Obama hoped that the series can be a place to explore meaningful topics together and sort through so many of the questions we’re all trying to answer in our own lives. “Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new conversations—and hard conversations—with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another,” she added.

Unlike an acquired original like The Joe Rogan Experience where the intent is to bring a show’s dedicated listeners over, a podcast like this one would attract more people to podcasts in general.
